The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will conduct a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 to open pickleball courts at Apodaca Park, 801 E. Madrid Ave.

The pickleball court project is part of the larger General Obligation (GO) Bond project to repair, renovate, and rehabilitate sport courts, parks, and athletic fields throughout the City. The courts at Apodaca Park were originally designed as tennis courts but have been modified and upgraded to accommodate pickleball play.

The pickleball courts include new surfacing, new fencing, expanded buffer areas, and upgraded lighting. The pickleball courts were completed by Highland Enterprises, Inc., the project contractor, and accepted by the City in August.

“This renovation project supports the growing pickleball community in our city,” Mayor Ken Miyagishima said. “The courts at Apodaca now double the number of courts the City has for outdoor pickleball play.”

The public is invited to attend the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Mayor Miyagishima and Assistant City Manager Ikani Taumoepeau will dedicate the facility with members of the Organ Mountains Pickleball Group and Highland Enterprises, Inc.

Cold drinks and light refreshments will be served, and attendees are welcome to enjoy the new courts and play.
